Ein Viereck in den Himmel werfen. Versuch 1-10.
2021

exhibition view, tyopgraphic pattern

The series shows a string of parrot lights being thrown through the air against a blue sky. Formations unfold in the individual pictures, creating ever new figures. The square remains a mental construct, an idea that cannot be depicted.

The string of lights itself is an object with a clear function. In its plastic artificiality, its stylized colourfulness and its strange exaggeration, it appears like a grotesque embodiment of an exotic imagination. The parrots no longer stand for a real place or a specific distance, but for a generalized idea of tropicality. As a mass product, they circulate in contexts that are no longer tied to geographical or cultural realities, but merely reproduce a decorative exoticism.

The work takes up this artificiality and pushes it further. In these moments, the chain of lights withdraws from the function ascribed to it and becomes a temporary choreography. The photographs capture these formations, but they do not fix anything definitive; rather, a kind of visual notation of movement is created. The images are reminiscent of calligraphy or sketch-like signs, of a script without clear legibility.

The series thus becomes not only a documentation of an event, but also a reflection on the conditions of visibility and meaning. It poses the question of how images are formed, how they resist order and at what moments they elude our expectation,
