I work with photography, moving image, writing/text and installation. I am interested in how inscriptions of power, memory and affect sediment in images - and how these can become permeable. My practice is situated in the expanded field of photography: I understand the photographic image not only as an image, but as a place of overlaps, tensions and inscriptions that actively shapes perceptions and experiences. The central question is how images - in their material, technical and cultural dimensions - contribute to the formation of the subject. I analyze visual representations not only in terms of content, but also with regard to their production conditions, circulation paths and carrier substances. Visual material appears as part of a larger apparatus, in which affects and meanings circulate just as much as raw materials, products and data.
My working method is conceptual, processual and emotional. Many projects and works emerge from intuitive, performative or material gestures and combine sensuality with theoretical reflection. Theory and writing are not an explanatory addition in my work, but part of the artistic process. I am interested in the friction between conceptual analysis and affective visual practice. Many works emerge from an in-between space: tentative, fragmentary, with a precise interest in power, language and visuality.
Collective, curatorial and mediating practice is just as central to me as my own artistic production. In addition to my individual work, collaborations and collective work are not only part of my artistic practice but also political and social practice. I work with various groups and collectives on a regular basis. The Kunstraum Turbine in Hohenofen, Brandenburg, a platform for exhibitions, residency programs and formats of artistic education in rural areas, which I run together with Nancy Göring, was opened in 2023.
